New London is a seaport city and a port of entry on the northeast coast of the United States. It is located at the mouth of the Thames River in New London County, southeastern Connecticut.

New London was founded in 1646. It was a base of American naval operations during the Revolutionary War and was a major whaling port in the 19th century. The harbor at New London was at one time considered to be the best on Long Island Sound.[3] The city is home to Connecticut College and the United States Coast Guard Academy.
